IL PROGETTO

The Thinking Musician è un progetto che vede protagonisti Mark Messenger – violino, musica da camera, co-fondatore e direttore del corso, Maria Tarasewicz – pianoforte, duo coaching, co- fondatrice e direttrice del corso, Andriy Viytovych, nominato Prima Viola dell’Orchestra dalla Royal Opera House Covent garden nel 2000, e Gemma Rosefield, vincitrice del Pierre Fournier Award nel 2007. Il primo corso ha avuto luogo in Belgio nel 2017 in una comunità filosofica di pensatori e da allora ha viaggiato fino alle montagne italiane e le isole Canarie, dai mercati ai monasteri, dalle case private alle sale da concerto. Creato da Mark Messenger e Maria Tarasewicz, obiettivo principale di The Thinking Musician è di provocare intellettualmente l’artista interiore e liberarne la creatività. La formazione musicale tradizionale spesso limita la libertà dell’artista, incentrandosi sull’abilità nel suonare piuttosto che sull’arte dell’espressione creativa, e non sempre tratta l’esecutore emergente come un essere umano completo, già in possesso di immaginazione e sensibilità.

GLI INTERPRETI

Mark Messenger, violino
Mark Messenger, violin, chamber music, co-founder and director of the course. He has taken great pleasure from over three decades of string quartet playing, travelling across the world to teach, conducting and from his role as Head of Strings at the Royal College of Music. As long as his exploration of life and music continues to provide such human experiences he will continue. If this ever ceases he will dedicate even more of his time to fine wine, good eating and scuba diving.

Maria Tarasewicz, pianoforte
Maria Tarasewicz, piano, duo coaching, co-founder and director of the course. She has an internationally renowned as a chamber musician, duo partner and a pedagogue and is committed to working with, and developing young artists. Her global reputation as a teacher comes from her insights into chamber music playing, releasing creativity in the moment of performance, underpinned by a deep understanding of score, composer and context. She has invitations to perform and teach around the world and has developed a unique duo programme at the Royal College of Music.

Andriy Viytovych, viola
Ukrainian born Andriy Viytovych was appointed Principal Viola of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2000. In the same year he became viola professor at the Royal College of Music in London. Andriy has worked with most of the world’s most eminent conductors and in March 2003 Andriy was invited to Berlin to play principal viola with the Berliner Philharmoniker. He has also toured the world as a soloist and chamber musician and is much in demand as an inspirational and insightful pedagogue.

Gemma Rosefield, violoncello
Winner of the Pierre Fournier Award in 2007, Gemma Rosefield has been described by The Strad as ‘a mesmerising musical treasure’, by the London Evening Standard as ‘a phenomenal talent’, and featured in BBC Music Magazine as ‘one to watch’, Gemma has played throughout Europe, the USA, Russia, Japan, Mexico, Kenya and New Zealand as a soloist and chamber musician. Gramophone Magazine commented that she plays ‘with truly glorious affection’ and that ‘it is hard to imagine playing of a greater intensity’.
