THE INTERPRETERS

Elly Suh, violin
Praised as “a sensitive and absorbing interpreter” (Musical America), violinist Elly Suh has received numerous prizes at international competitions including the Naumburg, Moscow David Oistrakh, Premio Paganini, Indianapolis, Michael Hill, and Leipzig Bach Competition, amongst others. Recent and forthcoming highlights include performances with the Orchestra della Toscana, Orchestra della Magna Grecia, Berliner Symphoniker, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Leipzig Pauliner Ensemble, NY Classical Players, and the Lviv Philharmonic. She has appeared on such stages as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Seoul Arts Center, Lotte Concert Hall, and performed at the Salzburger Festspiele, Al Bustan Festival, and Lerici Festival. Elly Suh studied at The Juilliard School in New York and the Mozarteum University of Salzburg under the guidance of Pierre Amoyal, Robert Mann, Joel Smirnoff, and Sally Thomas. She plays on a Guarneri del Gesù violin, through the kind assistance of Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.

Mathilde Milwidsky, violin
Born in London in 1994, Mathilde has been praised by The Strad for her “perfect intonation and beautiful shaping and colouring, comprehensively nailing each new stylistic and emotional universe as she went” and was the sole British violinist to be selected for the 2019 Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition. That year she was awarded 3rd Prize at the Windsor Festival International String Competition. Additional prizes include 1st Prize at the Royal Overseas League Music Competition, ‘laureate’ of the International Joseph Joachim Competition and winner of St John’s Smith Square Young Artist Scheme, for which she gave the world premiere of a piece by Sally Beamish. A further honour was being selected for the Verbier Festival Academy on the Soloist & Chamber Music Programme in both 2021 and 2022. Solo performance highlights include Cadogan Hall, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and festivals including Edinburgh, Prussia Cove, Fränkische Musiktage and Fanø. She has been broadcast as a soloist on BBC Radio 3 ‘In Tune’, Deutschlandfunk Kultur’s Hörprobe, Scala Radio’s ‘One to Watch’ and Radio Swiss Classic. In 2020, Mathilde’s debut CD for Toccata Classics with pianist Sam Haywood was released. She was named Classical Music Magazine’s Artist of the Month. Her latest CD release is of  Beethoven Romances for Violin and Orchestra with the National Symphony Orchestra. Formative studies at the Royal College of Music Junior Department as a Tsukanov Scholar were followed by a full scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music with György Pauk. Mathilde currently studies under Mi-kyung Lee at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. She plays a fine Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume kindly loaned to her through the Beare’s International Violin Society.

Francesca Senatore, viola
Born in 1998, after receiving her classical high school diploma, attended the G. Martucci Conservatory in Salerno where she obtained her bachelor’s degree. In September 2020 she moved to Cremona in order to attend the Conservatorio Monteverdi in the class of maestro Francesco Fiore, and in that same year, she entered the course of advanced studies in Chamber Music at the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, graduating in June 2023 under the guidance of maestro Ivan Rabaglia. In 2021 she was selected at the Stauffer Center for Strings in Cremona to be part of Maestro Giuranna’s class. After graduating from her master’s degree in Cremona, she was admitted at the HKB in Bern to study with Patrick Judt. She attended several courses and masterclasses with renound professors such as Simonide Braconi, Alexander Zemtsov, Hartmut Rohde. She had the honor of collaborating with Salvatore Accardo, Cecilia Radic and Laura Gorna during the summer courses at the Accademia Chigiana

Adrian Brendel, violoncello
Creative innovation and musical versatility rank high among the list of attributes cultivated by Adrian Brendel. The cellist, raised in the great central European tradition of music making, has forged strong and lasting partnerships with many fine artists and appeared with them at the world’s most prestigious festivals and concert halls. His love for contemporary music arose during his teens when he discovered works by Kurtág, Kagel and Ligeti; it has flourished since with landmark commissions and pioneering collaborations with such diverse composers as Thomas Adès, Harrison Birtwistle, Peter Eötvös and György Kurtág. The breadth of Adrian’s musical passions also encompasses jazz and world music and influenced his decision to join the Nash Ensemble in 2014. Born in London in 1976, Adrian studied cello with William Pleeth and soon shared his teacher’s profound attachment to chamber music. He later received lessons from Alexander Baillie and Frans Helmerson in London and Cologne, and participated in masterclasses with Kurtág, Ferenc Rados, members of the Alban Berg Quartet and with his father, Alfred Brendel. Musical partners with whom he regularly performs include Till Fellner, Kit Armstrong, Henning Kraggerud, Lisa Batiashvili, and Alasdair Beatson.

Petr Limonov

TV appearances for BBC Proms Extra, Podium Witteman and broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and radio France Musique. Petr has recorded for Decca, Onyx Classics, Chandos and Champs Hill labels. Over the years, his chamber music partners included, among others, Maria João Pires, Nicola Benedetti, Laura van der Heijden, Jennifer Pike, Mathilde Milwidsky and Leonard Elschenbroich.
